Why this page exists

I want everyone who rides a bike, or is shopping for someone who does, to be able to use this store. That includes people using a screen reader, people navigating by keyboard, and people who need larger text or stronger contrast to read comfortably.

CycleTees is run by one person, so I'm not going to pretend this site is perfect. What I can tell you is that I check it, I fix what I can, and I write down what I can't fix yet. This page is the honest version of that.

The standard we're working toward

We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That's the standard used in the US, the UK, and the EU. We review the site regularly.

What we actually do

  • Run automated accessibility scans on our main pages, including the pages where most people arrive and where they choose a product
  • Test by keyboard, with no mouse, all the way from browsing to checkout
  • Listen to our pages with a screen reader to check they make sense out loud
  • Check that buttons and options are easy to tap on a phone
  • Add alternative text to our images so they can be described out loud
  • Keep a dated record of what we found, what we fixed, and what is still outstanding

Our most recent review confirmed the site can be fully navigated by keyboard and works correctly with a screen reader, and we corrected an accessibility issue in the site footer.

What still needs work

Being straight with you about the current gaps:

Our review widget. Customer reviews are displayed using a third-party tool. Some of the smaller text inside it does not have enough contrast against its background. That specific text color is controlled by the review provider's platform rather than our own theme, so we cannot adjust it directly. We have noted it and will look at options the next time we review this section.

Our homepage banner. The headline on our main homepage image is part of the image itself rather than live text. We have described the wording in the image's alternative text so it can still be read out loud, and we plan to rebuild it properly the next time we update the homepage.

Checkout. Our checkout runs on Shopify's own system, which we cannot modify. We rely on Shopify to maintain it, and we would still want to hear from you if something there gets in your way.
